Mary Margaret Barkley, 69, of Danville, passed away at 10:45 AM on June 17, 2026 at Accolade Healthcare in Danville, IL.
Margaret, as many of her cousins called her, was the youngest child of Mary Leach Barkley and William Barkley. She was born on January 12, 1957 in Ottawa, IL. She was a hard-working woman who loved her family, her friends, her church, where she served as a Deacon, and her community.
Margaret spent most of her career as a nurse before going on to teach nursing students. She was recognized for her academic achievements in high school and was undoubtedly one of the top students in her nursing classes. Her mother and father were always proud of her accomplishments.
Margaret was pre-deceased by her parents, her sister, Cindy Barkley Sparta, and her brothers, Billy and Steve (Kip) Barkley. She shared a special bond with Cindy and was close to both of her brothers throughout her life.
She is survived by her niece, Tonja, who lovingly cared for her as her health declined. Margaret is also survived by her nephew Devin who was actively caring for her. Her nephew Kaleb, Craig, and Krista have also survived her as well as many great nieces and nephews. She took great pride in the accomplishments of all of her nieces and nephews.
Some of our favorite memories of Margaret: She was always very independent, had strong opinions, but was fair. She loved to travel overseas and visit historical places. Ireland was her favorite. She could talk for hours about various actors/actresses, recite their history and all the gossip. She used to babysit her nieces/nephews and she had a vast collection of movies to entertain us. We often watched comedies like Caddyshack over and over. The gopher dancing always made her laugh. Whenever there was mention of her favorite actor, Tom Selleck, her eyes would light up! We found out recently, she enjoyed playing puzzle and hidden picture games on the computer. Family reunions were never quite complete without her delicious broccoli cheese casserole.
Margaret touched many lives through her work, her faith, her kindness, and her devotion to her family. She will be deeply missed.
