Mary R. “Mickey” (Marken) Bailey passed away on December 31, 2013 at Danville Care Center. She was born on February 11, 1922 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to Daniel H. and Ellen B. Flanagan. Mickey graduated from Liberty High School and Moravian College in Bethlehem. She was employed by Bethlehem Steel Corporation then enlisted in the Womens Marine Corp from 1942 until 1946. She took a job as Executive Director of the Girl Scouts in Danville, IL upon leaving the Marines in 1949. This is where she met and married Morris D. Marken. From there she worked for JC Penney and finally the VA Hospital in the Food Service Department until her retirement in 1984. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Morris D. Marken, and her second husband Thomas H. Bailey. Mickey is survived by her children David (Jan) Marken, Toni (the late Terry) Potter, and Jodi Marken. Also surviving are three grandchildren Donnette (Kevin) Benson, Michele (Jeff Prunkard), Nathaniel Marken, and four great-grandchildren. A celebration of Marys Life will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor James Blue officiating. A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Springhill Cemetery. Full military rites by the American Legion Post #210 will take place at Sunset Funeral Home directly following the service.
