Mary B. Smith

Danville Mary B. Smith, 86, of Danville, IL passed away at 9:22 PM on April 4, 2022 at Hickory Estates Memory Care in Pana, IL.

Mary was born on November 28, 1935, the daughter of Edward and Dorthea (Hackney) Bernard in Danville, IL. She married Donald R. Smith on June 12, 1957 in Danville, IL and he preceded her in death on October 14, 2013.

She is survived by one son, Jay Scott (Dena) Smith of St Charles, IL, one daughter, Cheri (David) Wysong of Pana, IL, and daughter-in-law, Doris Smith of Ashmore, IL. Grandchildren include; Tashya Smith, Nicole (Jairo) Ocampo, Jessica Smith, Jordan (Stephanie) Wysong, Hannah (Martin) Leathers, Taylor (Kayla) Smith, Elaina Smith (Ian Armstrong), and Audrey Smith. Great-grandchildren include; Teresa, Jayde, Grace, Rydr, Alexis, Elliana, Evelyn, Quinn, and Elara. Mary was also blessed with one great-great-grandchild, Paula.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, (Donald Eric Smith), two brothers, (Edward Bernard and John Bernard), two sisters, (Jean Trosper and Marge Smith) as well as one grandson, (Brian Scott Smith).

Mary graduated from Danville High School and went on to receive Bachelor and Masters degrees in education from Illinois State University. She was a teacher with District #118 for many years working with hearing impaired children. She enjoyed spending her free time gardening, baking, traveling, doing crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 11, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center located at 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Pastor Kevin Cox will officiate. Entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from Noon - 2:00 PM on Monday, April 11, 2022 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Humane Society in Danville where she adopted her beloved Lucy.
