MaryAnn Cruppenink Marsh, a lifelong resident of Westville, Illinois, passed peacefully at home on June 30, 2026, surrounded by her devoted son Kurt and daughter-in-law Sherri, who lovingly cared for her over the past three and a half years. She was born on August 30, 1929, in Westville, Illinois, to George and Margaret (Gaie) Shaw.
MaryAnn grew up in Westville, attending Washington and McMillian grade schools before graduating from Westville High School. She cherished her hometown roots and remained deeply connected to her community throughout her life.
In her early adult years, MaryAnn married George W. Cruppenink on July 5, 1947, in Danville, Illinois. Together, they were blessed with two sons, Craig and Kurt. George passed away in 1971, but the legacy of their family endures through their children and generations to follow. Later, on August 30, 1997, she found companionship again in marriage to Rev. Robert Marsh at Trinity United Church of Westville.
MaryAnn’s life was marked by service, dedication, and active involvement in civic and community affairs. For many years, she served her neighbors as an election judge for the Georgetown Precinct. As part of the Westville Senior Center, she compassionately delivered meals-on-wheels to area residents in need. For fifteen years, she was an integral part of the family business, Westville Canvas Products, dedicating herself until her father’s passing in 1976.
MaryAnn was also called to public service in local government, elected as clerk for the Georgetown Township for a four-year term. She went on to serve twenty years as a deputy assessor until her retirement on December 31, 2001, leaving a lasting mark on her community.
Faith was central to MaryAnn’s life. A devoted member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Westville, she gave tirelessly of herself, serving on the Diaconate Board, Church Council, and Music Committee. She was a valued member of the Ladies Full Circle, lay shepherd, and sang in the Chancel Choir for 25 years. Her faith journey continued as she and her husband became members of the Homer New Life Church of Faith, where they offered support since the construction phase of the new worship center.
MaryAnn’s passions were as abundant as her generosity. She delighted in quilting, creating special gifts for each of her children and grandchildren. Her gardens were a testament to her great love of flowers, and music often filled her home. She found pleasure in reading, as well as in cooking and entertaining, especially during the holidays—a time when family and friends gathered joyously under her warm hospitality. Accompanying her husband to annual Navy reunions, where he served as Chaplain, brought her great joy as she traveled across the United States, savoring these shared memories.
MaryAnn is survived by her loving sons, Craig (Connie) Cruppenink and Kurt (Sherri) Cruppenink. She leaves behind a proud legacy embodied by her grandchildren: Kari Elliott, Katie Woods, Kyle (Jordan) Cruppenink, Coleen (Alex) Wakeland, and Marianne Cruppenink; step grandson: Tristan (Allison) Lauderdale; and her great-grandchildren: Annabelle Woods, Sam Woods, Lydia Wakeland, Audra Wakeland, Maxine Cruppenink, and Elijah Cruppenink.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Margaret (Gaie) Shaw; her beloved husbands, George Cruppenink and Robert Marsh; and her brother, Gerald Shaw.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Transitions Hospice nurses for their exceptional care, with special thanks to her nurse Mackenzie.
Per her wishes there will be a private family viewing. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park, 3901 N Vermilion St, Danville, IL 61834, on July 3, 2026.
