Danville- Marvin Le Roy McDonald, 79, of Danville, passed away on May 22, 2015 in the early morning at Palm Terrace Nursing Home in Mattoon, IL. Marvin was born the son of Harry and Norma (Baker) McDonald on April 1, 1936. He married Mary Jo Dunavan on December 27, 1959 she survives. Also surviving Marvin is one son Scott (Leslie) McDonald and one daughter Karen (Marc) Holycross; one grandson Jacob Holycross; one granddaughter Stephanie (Doug) Lampley; two great grandchildren Sydney and Gretchen; one brother Delmar (June) McDonald and four sisters Ilene (Lester) Whitlatch, Irene (Clarence) Schmitz, Mildred (Al) Reed and Ruby (Dick) Hamilton; one brother in law Dan (Kathy) Dunavan; two sister in laws Dorothy and Shirley McDonald; and many nieces and nephews. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Lyle and Marion; one brother and sister in law Don and Soni Dunavan. Marvin was a high school graduate of Shelbyville High School, and the University of Illinois. He was a member of Old Union Church of Christ then later becoming a Charter Member of CrossRoads Christian Church. He work in education for over 30 years. Marvin started as a high school Ag and Biology teacher for one year. He was a High School Principal at Chrisman, Manteno and Chenoa High Schools, and retired from Bismarck- Henning High School. Marvin was a master gardener and enjoyed planting and being in his garden. He also was a member of the Illinois Kennel Club, a leader with 4H and member of Bismarck Lions Club. Marvin was a faithful Cardinals fan he also loved the Illini but was most proud supporter of all Bismarck Henning High School events. A Celebration of Marvin's life will be held at CrossRoads Christian Church on Wednesday May 27, 2015 at 11:00 am., with Pastor Miles Clark officiating. A visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville, IL on Tuesday May 26, 2015 from 4:00pm until 8:00 pm.
