Marvin E. Davis was born on March 5, 1944 in Danville Illinois to Edwin M. and Grace A. (Gilliland) Davis. Marvin married Debra (Debi Bowman) Davis on February 5, 1977. He passed away at 10:35, on September 23rd, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Marvin is survived by his loving wife Debi, son, Chris (Lisa) Davis of Marion, IA, his daughter, Heather (Jim) Spencer of Danville, IL, a brother, Dan (Kim) Davis of Costa Mesa, CA. He had 2 grandsons, Ryan (Kelly) Davis of Bloomington, IL and Zachary Spencer of Danville, IL and two granddaughters, Whitney Spencer of Danville, IL and Stephanie Davis of Bloomington, IL and one great grandson, Charlie Davis of Bloomington, IL. Marv was a loving Husband, Dad, Papa and Great Papa. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. And last but not least, his service dog Sugar, she never left his side, and she will be lost without him!!
Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Grace Davis and his in-laws, Richard and Jacqueline (Tabels) Bowman.
Marvin went to school at Franklin, Northeast and Danville High School graduating in June 1962.
In July of 1962, he entered the United States Marine Corp and left with an Honorable Discharge in 1966. He always told everyone he was in for 4 years, 2 months, 15 days and 4 hours, and said, "Once a Marine always a Marine. He was a very proud Marine and he served some of his time in Vietnam, he entered as a Private, then Private 1st Class, then Lance Corporal and came out a Sargent E5. He received a National Defense Service Medal, an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal and A Purple Heart.
Once he got out of the service, Marvin and his Dad built a Furniture Store in 1967, opening up in March of 1968 under the name of MarSue Furniture, in 1971 he bought his Dad out and in 1979 built onto the building and changed the name in 1980 to Mr. Discounts Furniture. People all around town always called him Mr. Discount, and Debi Mrs. Discount, they worked side by side in the business their whole married life. In 2005, Marv and Debi closed up the business, Marv retired for a couple of years, then went to work for Sunset Funeral Home in Danville Illinois from 2008 until 2012 then retired again. Once Debi retired in 2014, they wintered in Florida until his passing. He always told people he was Living The DREAM.. Marv and Debi also loved to play golf at Turtle Run, you could always see one of them out there almost every day.
Per Marvins wishes, cremation rights will be accorded with no service. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834 is assisting the family with arrangements.
