Haubstadt, IN Marvin Dean Ackerman, 74, of Haubstadt, IN, passed away at 1:20 AM on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN. He was born July 28, 1948 in Urbana, IL to Herman O. and Marie (Bohlen) Ackerman. He married Shirley Ann Boten on July 21, 1968 in Royal, IL. She survives.

He is also survived by two daughters, Meredith Petty of Evansville, IN, and Melanie (Aaron) Hemmer of Reno, NV; and six grandchildren, Blake, Hannah, Evan, Isaac, Jackson, and Brendon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Marlene Talbott, and son-in-law Mitchell Petty.

Marvin worked at a coal mine for Consolidation Coal for 29 years. Following his work at the mine, he worked as a safety contractor for Toyota. Marvin was a talented woodworker, enjoyed fishing, and puzzles. Most of all he loved being with his friends and family and spending time with his grandchildren.

A service to celebrate the life of Marvin Ackerman will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at Sunsets Oakwood Chapel, 105 E. South Main St., Oakwood, IL 61858. Pastor Jay Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow at Stearns Cemetery in Fithian. Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM prior to the service on Thursday, also at Sunset in Oakwood. Memorials in Marvins name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
