Danville - Marvin H. Collom, 94, of Danville passed away at 12:42 AM on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on September 3, 1920 in Georgetown, IL to Andy Owen and Inez (Howard) Collom. He married Imogene Tuggle on January 30, 1942 who survives. Marvin and Imogene would have been celebrating their 73rd year of marriage this month. Also surviving are two daughters, Judy Corbin of Normal, IL and Darla (Robert) Sparrow of Orlando, FL; six grandchildren, Lisa (Joe) Kuhlman, Christy (Bruce) Johnson, Matthew (Erin) Corbin, Sarah (Ryan) Kuntzi, Todd (Laura) Sparrow, and Tony (Lindsey) Sparrow; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Maxine and Winifred; brother, Jack; and two grandchildren, Terry Sparrow and Mark Corbin. After graduating from Georgetown High School Marvin served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He had been employed at the Beard Ice Co. in the 40s and later retired from Borden Milk Co. after 27 years. Marvin was an avid bass fisherman and loved the annual trips he and Imogene would take to Texas for fishing and camping. He also enjoyed sports and was a member at the First Church of the Nazarene in Danville. The decision he made to follow Christ in 1964 not only impacted his life eternally, but it continues to be a witness to family and friends today. A service to celebrate the life of Marvin Collom will be held at 10 AM on Monday, January 19, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. Pastor Dave Anderson will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Indianola. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 PM on Sunday, January 18, also at Sunset in Danville, and again from 9 to 10 AM on Monday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene in Danville.
