Marva Jean Mays

Marva Jean Mays, 71, of Danville, went to be with the lord at 7:51 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Marva was born on March 18, 1936 in Danville, Illinois, the daughter of Jesse and Elsie (Baker) Davis. She was blessed with an angel, Wilber Dusty Rhodes on October 2, 1955 in Danville. He preceded her in death on September 21, 1968. She was later blessed with another angel, Jack D. Mays on May 14, 1970 in Danville. He survives. She is also survived by her one son- Derrick (Ralphette) Rhodes of Chicago, Illinois; three daughters- Glenna Wilson of Detroit, Michigan, Karla (Ira) Jefferson of Champaign, Illinois and Lajuanna Rhodes of Danville; one sister- Sharon (John) Hails of Farmington Hills, Michigan; five grandchildren- Tamesha Wilson of Detroit, Michigan, Anthony Norwood of Detroit, Michigan, Dustin Jefferson of Champaign, Illinois, Derrick Rhodes II of Chicago, Illinois, and Dana Rhodes of Chicago, Illinois; four great-grandchildren- Serenity, Breanna, Jacere, and Amire; two very special nieces- Shenita Davis of Danville and Tiffini Hails of Southfield, Michigan; one very special cousin- Ila Hamilton of Danville; several other nieces, nephews, and cousins; and the very special Jimson family. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers- Jesse Davis, William Davis, and James Davis. Marva graduated from Danville High School in 1954. She was a lifelong member of the 2nd Baptist Church in Danville. She loved to spend her time cooking and sewing. She loved watching the Illini and Bulls play and never wanted to be interrupted while they were on T.V. She loved to listen to gospel music and spend time with her grandchildren. A Celebration of the Life of Marva Jean Mays was at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2007 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, with Pastor James Blue officiating.
