Martin Hugh Jacob, 65, of Covington, IN, passed away on August 8, 2013 at his residence. He was born on September 9, 1947 in Watseka, IL, the son of Fred Henry and Anna Rose (Pence) Jacob. Surviving him are one sister- Roberta (Robert) Ruef of Iron River, Wisconsin, two nephews- Jason (Jessica) Brooks of Austin, Texas, David Brooks of Brooklyn, New York and one great nephew- Nathan Brooks of Austin, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents. Martin is a graduate of East Lynn High School, class of 1965 and attended the Illinois Commercial College in Champaign. Martin answered the call of his country and served in the United States Army from 1967 until 1969. He served a tour of duty in the Central Highlands of Vietnam in a combat unit with the 4th Infantry Division. Martin was wounded in battle and awarded the Purple Heart. Upon discharge, Martin was employed by Bohn Aluminum; later Heatcraft Refrigeration Products in Danville from 1969 until the facility closed in 2009. He left as payroll supervisor with 39 years of service. He was a member of American Legion Post 527 in Cissna Park, IL, as were other members of the Jacob family. After retirement Martin became a volunteer at the Danville VA. He enjoyed coin collecting, antiquing and working on computers. A Celebration of Martins Life will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 11:00 AM EST 10:00 AM Central at the Danville VA Protestant Chapel, 1900 East Main Street Danville, IL 61832. Burial will take place following the service at Danville National Cemetery. Memorials can be made in Martins name to any Veterans Organization. Sunset Covington Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
