Martha R. Howard, 83, of Danville passed away on September 15, 2014 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. Martha was born the daughter of Claude and Ruby (Clapp) Huggins, on September 1, 1931. She married Ralph Howard Jr. on June 15, 1952 and was preceded in death by her beloved husband in May of 2009. Martha is survived by one son Paul S. Howard of Danville and one daughter Ruth (Frank) Moore of Terre Haute, Indiana; four grandchildren Frank (Kari) Moore, Kathleen (David) Lentz, Margaret (Anthony) Bailey, Jonathan R. Moore; two great-grandchildren William Moore, Cheyenne Lentz; and her brother-in-law Walter Howard. Martha is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers, two sisters, her granddaughter Elizabeth Moore, and great-granddaughter Katelyn Moore. Martha was a 1965 graduate from Indiana State University with a Bachelors degree. She was a teacher for 33 years starting in Catlin, then moving to Danville to teach remedial reading skills at the grade school level. She enjoyed knitting gloves and hats, which she donated to the Salvation Army for the holidays and baby blankets. She also enjoyed sewing, was an avid reader, and loved to travel to 49 of the 50 states with her husband. A celebration of life will be held on Friday September 19, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. Pastor Mark Keiser will be officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2014 from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park at a later time.
