Newport, Ind. - Martha 'Marty' L. Zumwalt, 70, of Newport, passed away at 12:25 p.m. EST Thursday, March 11, 2021 at her home.
She was born September 1, 1950 in Clinton, Indiana the daughter of the late George 'Gabe' and Mable (Hatch) Harrison.
Marty married Richard 'Dick' Zumwalt on May 24, 1969. He survives.
Other survivors include two children: Deana Norris and Kory (Staci) Zumwalt both of Newport, Indiana; one stepson: Raymond 'Troy' (Cindy) Zumwalt of Danville, Illinois; five grandchildren: Sherri (Ryan Good) Gibson, Kylah and Jayde Norris, Kody (Makenzie) Zumwalt and Trent Zumwalt; great-grandchildren: Callie, Colton and Tucker Gibson; two brothers: George (Judy)Harrison of Oregon and Dale 'Shag' Harrison of Newport, Indiana; sister: Dorothy (Joe) Johnson of Alaska and sister-in-law: Ruth Ann (Raymond) Bush of Lodi, Indiana, along with several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Marty was preceded in death by her sister: Sue Cheesman; sister-in-law: Linda Harrison; brother: Bob Harrison; brother-in-law: Kenny Cheesman; son-in-law: Chad Norris; two nieces: Terri Dubois and Andrea Roberts, and nephew: Brian Cheesman.
Marty retired from Walmart in 2011 after working 25 years. She was a life long member of the Newport American Legion Auxiliary Unit 184 and the Church of God in Newport. Marty was a graduate of North Vermillion High School Class of 1968. Marty loved to travel with her husband of 51 years and 10 months and her family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and watching them play any sport they may have been playing at the current time. Her grandchildren were her everything. She was so excited for the newest member of the family due in July.
Graveside services and burial: 1 p.m. EDT Monday, March 15, 2021 at Thomas Cemetery, Newport, Indiana; Officiating: Pastor John Hawkins. There will be no visitation. DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana is assisting the family with arrangements.
