Martha Jane Sowers

Newport, Ind. - Martha Jane Sowers, 90, of Newport, passed away at 10:35 a.m. EDT Monday, July 3, 2017 at her residence.

She was born December 24, 1926 in Newport, Indiana the daughter of the late George Sebert and Della (Harrison) Pearman.

She married Roscoe Sowers on December 24, 1944 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on March 2, 1999.

Survivors include two daughter-in-laws, Helen and Cindy Sowers both of Newport, Indiana; nine grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; several great great grandchilden, and one sister, Betty Weaver of Newport, Indiana.

Martha was preceded in death by her two sons, Clifford D. and Dennis Sowers; daughter, Elsie Ann Allen; one great granddaughter; three sisters and three brothers.

Martha was a homemaker. She was the former Clerk of the Newport Water Department for many years. Martha was a member of the Newport Church of God and a life member and past president of the Newport American Legion Auxiliary Unit 184. She enjoyed reading and word search puzzles.

Graveside services and burial: 10 a.m. EDT Friday, July 7, 2017 at Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana; Officiating: Pastor John Hawkins; Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. EDT Thursday, July 6, 2017 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. EDT at the funeral home.
