Martha Fairchild

Martha D. Fairchild, age 87, of Danville, passed away at 6:45 pm on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at her home. She was born July 29, 1921 in Pipestone, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Clifford and Martha J. Diveley. Martha married J.L. Fairchild on March 19, 1943 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He preceded her in death on July 13, 2005. She is survived by two sons: Paul (Carol) Fairchild of Anchorage, Alaska and Daniel L. Fairchild of Danville; one sister: Wilma Miller of Monticello, IN; two son-in-laws: Paul Gropp of Newburgh, New York, Paul Jankowski of Goodrich, Michigan; eight grandsons: Aaron (Millie) Fairchild, Daniel Nelson Fairchild,, Paul W. Gropp, John L. Gropp, Peter A. Gropp, Andrew Gropp, Michael Jankowski and Matthew Jankowski and one great grandson: Avi Fairchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; two daughters: Jane Gropp and Mary Jankowski; and three brothers: Frances Diveley, Paul Diveley, and Wayne Diveley. Martha graduated from the University of Illinois with a teaching degree. She raised her family, then taught at Danville High School for sixteen years. She was a member of the Ridgeview Baptist Church of Danville, the Retired Teachers Association and Home Extension. Martha filled her last years with friends and family correspondence, care for her family, and prayer. A celebration of the life of Martha Fairchild will be held at Ridgeview Baptist Church, Danville, IL at 10 am Thursday, September 25, 2008.Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 from 5 to 8 pm.
