Martha Ann Mervis, 100, of Danville, peacefully passed away at her home Wednesday morning, July 20. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 22, 1904, the daughter of Goldie Greenberg Friedman and Harry Morris Friedman. She married Isadore Mervis on August 25, 1929. Mrs. Mervis was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband of 42 years in 1972, her daughter, Selma Mervis Young (Martin) in 2002 and brother, Leon Friedman, in 1976. She is survived by her loving son, Louis L. Mervis (Sybil) of Danville and her devoted daughter, Jacqueline Mervis Mack (Dr. Edward B. Silberstein) of Cincinnati, Ohio. Also surviving are her 10 cherished grandchildren: Dr. Robyn Young, Robert Young (Jacqueline Falchook), Adam Mervis (Laurel Kroack), Philip Mervis (Sheryl Facktor), Andrew Mack (Amy), Michael Mervis (Julie), Jennifer Mack Dauer (Eric), Kenneth Mack (Laura Ouziel " Mack), Joshua Mervis (Lynn Eichen), and Ellen Mervis (P.J. DeLuca) and her 14 beloved great-grandchildren: Ian Cox, Michael Young; Alec, Devon, Audra, Isaac, Joseph, Samuel, Gabriel, Zoe, Augustus and Solomon Mervis; Elijah Dauer and Ava Mack. Mrs. Mervis graduated from Danville High School in 1924. She worked as a secretary at the Occidental Insurance Company in Chicago and returned to Danville to attend Browns Business College. She then worked in the office of the Rissman factory prior to her marriage. Mrs. Mervis was an active member of Congregation Israel, Bnai Brith, Hadassah and the Order of the Eastern Star. A consummate homemaker whose life revolved around her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was a woman of grace, remarkable kindness and was a treasure to her family.
