Mark W. Bounds, 69, of Danville, IL peacefully passed away at 12:24 A.M., December 14, 2020, in the comfort of his home, with his wife Susan by his side.Mark was born on August 6, 1951 in Danville to William (Bill) and Harriet (Egly) Bounds. Mark married Susan (Slayton) on May 18, 1996, and they enjoyed a wonderful 24 year marriage, and were looking forward to traveling.
Mark is survived by his loving and devoted wife Susan, his brother Steve Bounds of Danville, brother-in-law Mark Hodgson of Oakwood, sister-in-law Kathy (Charlie) Coulter of La Quinta, CA, 'sister-in-law' Becky Engel of Danville, and several aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father William (Bill) Bounds, his mother Harriet Hewitt, step mother Julia Bounds, sister Angela Hodgson, in-laws Ted Sr. and Betty Slayton, and brother-in-law Ted Slayton, Jr.
Mark was a graduate of DHS class of '69. His senior year he became a proud member of the Country Youngin's band and played many venues throughout the community. Mark worked for a time with his father, Bill Bounds, at the Teamsters Local 26 in Danville, and later became a locomotive engineer for CSX Transportation, from which he retired. Mark enjoyed watching sports, grilling and cooking, playing guitar and singing country classics (no doubt a talent he inherited from his father, Bill), dancing with Susan, taking care of his yard, many good times with family and friends, and loved his cat Charlie. He was spiritual and enjoyed Sunday morning worship within his home. Mark valiantly fought cancer since March of 2020. He had so many great friends, neighbors, and family, and their unfailing support through this difficult time as been a steady source of solace and comfort to both Mark and Susan.
From one of Mark's favorite hymns....
'And then one day, I'll cross the river and fight life's final war with pain.
And then as death gives way to victory, I'll see the lights of glory, and I'll know he reigns.'
A special thank you to Dr. Halloran, Dr. Rowland, and Carle staff for their care and support. Per Mark's wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. There will be no service at this time, due to Covid restrictions.
Cremation rites have been entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834.
Please join the family in sharing memories, photos, and video on his Tribute wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
