Danville- Marjorie B. Campbell, 90, of Danville, passed away at 7:40 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2010 at her home. Marjorie was born March 24, 1920, at Lakeview Hospital in Danville, the oldest daughter of C.F. Buck Barton and Grace Oetzel Barton. She had one sister, Mildred Barton, who preceded her in death in 1989. She married Charles M. Chuck Campbell, of Danville, on July 28, 1943 in New York City, NY, where he was an officer in training with the US Naval Reserve prior to being commissioned during World War II. Mr. Campbell later became State Representative from 1962-1980. He preceded her in death on Veterans Day in 1996. She was a devoted wife and partner in her husbands political career, serving as his District secretary for a number of years. She is survived by two sons, Con (Beth) Campbell of Ashkum, Illinois and Rand (Glenda) Campbell of Danville; four granddaughters, Katie Campbell of Xenia, OH, Kelly Campbell of Denver, CO, Kristen (Gabriel) Grant of St. Paul, MN, and Korie (Christopher) Campbell-Stanley of Chicago, IL. Also surviving is a foster granddaughter, Nikki Hagler of Olathe, KA and a very special cousin, Sharon (Michael) Thorlton of Danville. Marjorie was a graduate of Danville High School in 1937 and the University of Illinois in 1941, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. After graduating, she worked as a secretary for Industrial Gloves in Danville and as a secretary for the Vermilion County Highway Office. After her marriage to Chuck, she stopped working outside the home to become a full time housewife. After his retirement from the Legislature, she served as farm manager for the family farm from 1982-2002. She was an avid sports fan, especially U of I athletics. She also enjoyed golf and fishing, but her most cherished memories were spending time with her family at the lake cabin in Ontario, Canada. Marjorie was a member of Community Church of God and a charter member of the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 5, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home at 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. immediately preceding the service. Pastor Steve Stanley will officiate.
