Danville - Marion “Gene” Laird, 81, of Danville, passed away on December 24, 2013 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center. He was born January 19, 1932 in Danville, IL the son of Elmer and Mildred Gray Laird. He was married to Peggy Maiden Laird on December 23, 1950. Peggy has since passed away in 2008. He is survived by his son Richard (Brenda) Laird; daughter Pam (Bill) Bair; grandchildren Anthony (Tiffany) Laird, Jeremy Laird, Sean (Susan) McBride; great-grandchildren Dylan, Elizabeth, Jaxon Laird, and Mason and Garyson McBride, Zach Martin and J.T. Pollock; one great-great- grandson Nicholas Martin. And his dog Brandy whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Elmer Laird. Gene was an avid golfer every Friday he and three of his friends would go golfing; it did not matter where they went just as long as they got to go. When Gene was younger he was an excellent trumpet player and could be found playing at the moose lodge. He also enjoyed fishing with his family, he had a camper in Gibson City where he would do the majority of his fishing. Gene was a plumber for 42 years and was part of Local Union 293 and Local Union 157 He was very proud of the work he did. Above all else, Gene loved his family; he will be sorely missed by anyone who was fortunate enough to have known him. A celebration of Genes life will be held at 10am on Monday December 30, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. A visitation will be held on Sunday December 29, 2013 from 4 to 8pm at the funeral home.
