Marilyn Jean Carpenter (Reynolds), age 73, completed her earthly journey at 2:20 PM, Thursday August 19, 2021 at the OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center. She was born November 13th, 1947 in Danville, Illinois, the youngest daughter of the late Mary Ellen (Spickard) Reynolds and Milton Harold Reynolds. She was a graduate of Danville High School and received her teaching degree from Eastern Illinois University along with a masters degree in curriculum and instruction from Indiana Wesleyan University.

Marilyn married her husband Robert "Bob" Dean Carpenter on January 15th, 1966 at Second Church of Christ in Danville, IL. They lived in Holiday Hills neighborhood until they moved to their country home outside of Perrysville, Indiana in 1975. After Bobs passing on February 11th, 2012, Marilyn moved back to Danville.

She loved to read novels and often made the time to take in her favorite authors. She especially enjoyed working puzzles and making arts and crafts where she could apply her gift of meticulous attention to detail. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends especially on travel adventures. She brought joy to others with her special knack for finding the perfect gifts for those she loved.

Marilyn worked for many years in various capacities for Danville District 118 School District. She spent most of her teaching career at Bismarck Elementary School where she retired in 2013.

She attended the Bismarck United Methodist Church in-person with her friends & family and enjoyed watching the Columbus Indiana Free Methodist Church virtually through their Facebook feed.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter Lisa (Carpenter) Barker of Tilton, Illinois; and son John (Shanna Voorhees) Carpenter of Columbus, Indiana; five grandchildren: Sidney (Ashleigh Robarge) Barker, Joshua Carpenter, Logan Barker, Shelby Carpenter, and Caden Carpenter; and six great grandchildren: Anthony, Wyatt, Benjamin, Oscar, Brantley, and Bennett. She is also survived by her sister Sharon (Reynolds) Neild of Westville. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great, great nieces and nephews. She is further survived by friends and three very special friends Billie Hubner, Nancy Gray, and Anna Beth Gilmour. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years Robert Carpenter.

A private graveside service was held with immediate family on August 25th, 2021 at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville, Illinois. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life service on Saturday November 13th at 1:30 pm at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Pastor Chris Quick of the Bismarck United Methodist Church will preside. A short 30 minute visitation will be held just prior to the service starting at 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend a great thanks to the caregivers at the OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center for their loving attention and support as they attended to her needs during her illness. Covid-19 has been especially difficult on our healthcare workers and we greatly appreciate the hard work they endure every day.
