Marie Vanderport

Marie E. Vanderport Marie E. Vanderport passed away at 6:45 pm at Provena Hospital in Danville on Friday, June 6, 2008. She was 95. Marie was born on April 23, 1913 in Westville, Illinois to Roy and Dolly (Wilson) Underwood. She was educated in Westville. In April of 1934, Marie was married to Oscar Vanderport, also from Westville. As well as being a homemaker, Marie was employed at Chuckles Candy Factory in Danville. She was a member of the Bakery and Confectionary Workers Union. With her husband she managed Vanderport Piano and Organ Company until their retirement in 1972. Marie loved music and reading. She was an active member of Lambda Tau Delta and participated in their philanthropic work for Heartstring, an institute for special needs children. Preceded in death by her beloved parents, husband, sister Elsie Underwood Butcher, and brother Elmo W. Underwood, Marie is survived by her son Gene Michael Vanderport, her grandson David Michael Vanderport, and two great grandchildren, Jill Ann and Cole Robert Vanderport. There will be a memorial gathering and celebration of her life at 2:00 pm on Saturday June 14, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home located at 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville, IL. Donations will be accepted at Sunset Funeral Home for Lambda Tau Delta or Heartstring.
