DANVILLE Marie Margaret Radford Tanquary, 85, of Danville died at 3:55 a.m. Tuesday (April 3) at Hawthorne Inn, Danville. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 8, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St. with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 444 E. Main St., Danville. The Rev. Ted Pracz will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Danville, with military rites accorded. Marie was born Aug. 11, 1921, in Solvay, a suburb of Syracuse, N.Y., daughter of Michael Joseph and Charlotte Serena Gallagher Radford. She married Patrick Gordon Tanquary on Oct. 22, 1946 at St. Cecelias Church, Solvay. He preceded her in death Oct. 12, 1997. The couple met while both were stationed at USN Frontier Base, Charleston, S.C. He was a Yeoman 2c, just having returned from the war in the Pacific, and she a Chief Storekeeper on base. She served in the U.S. Navy from April 1944 to August 1946. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Michelle (Andrew) Phillips, of Danville; two grandchildren, Eric Stephen (Kelly Osterbur) Kuchefski of Urbana and Alan Patrick (Tara) Kuchefski of Bloomington; a great granddaughter Loralei Marie Kuchefski of Bloomington; and a sister Helen Crowley of Ellicottville, N.Y. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, a sister and a stillborn infant. Marie was a graduate of Solvay High School. In Danville, she was sought out for her skills as a comptometer operator working for Meis Bros., F. L. Jacobs and many annual United Way campaigns under the direction of Hazel B. Cavanaugh. She retired from Kuchefski Heating and Air Conditioning after working many years as bookkeeper/office manager. Marie and her husband spent many busy and fun-filled years of retirement in Englewood, Fla. She returned to Danville to be near family in 2005. Marie enjoyed and was proficient at every kind of needlecraft. She loved to travel and served as the treasurer for 10 years of the U.S.S. Coghlan, DD-606, Association, started by her husband to bring together the men who served aboard that destroyer in World War II. She succeeded her husband in that roll and had helped him produce the first 102 issues of the groups newsletter. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, serving as the Illinois State Regent in the mid-1970s. She also volunteered at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville and sang in the Polynesian Village Chorus while in Florida. Donations may be made to the AMBUCS Sprayground for Everyone Project at P.O.
