Marie Ellis

On June 11, 2023, Marie Denise (McElroy) Ellis, 67, passed peacefully at home with her husband by her side. Marie was born to Carroll Edward McElroy and Inez Lucille (Clause) McElroy on February 29, 1956, in Quincy, Illinois. Marie graduated from Quincy Senior High in 1974. Marie went on to graduate college from Quincy University with a degree in Elementary Education. On November 15, 1980, Marie was married to Gary Lee Ellis at the Vermilion Grove Friends Church. Marie is survived by her husband and their three children, Michael Ellis, Jacob Ellis, and Sarah (Gregory) Runyan. Honorary son BJ William and grandchildren: William Runyan, Milee Ellis, Addisen Ellis, and Jeffrey Runyan along with honorary grandchildren Alexis (Jared) Vandervanter and Deven Vice. Marie is also survived by brother Kelly (Priscilla) McElroy and sisters Polly (John) Sprick, Patricia Smith, and Stacey (John) Edwards, brother-in-law John Ellis, sister-in-law and cousin Kathy (Welborn) Ellis. Her niece, many nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Marie is proceeded in death by her father Carroll, mother Lucille (Clause), stepmother Mary Lou (Welborn), brother-in-law Michael Smith, cousin Tim Miller and many other friends and family. Marie retired from teaching visually impaired and blind students in Vermilion County schools and surrounding areas through Vermilion Association for Special Education (V.A.S.E). She received the Golden Ruler award. When Marie wasnt teaching, she was involved in many different activities from Cub Scouts, Thunderin Buffs Music Boosters, Student Senate and Senior Sponsor, Danville Light Opera, servicing for over ten years at Life Church and the list could go on and on. Marie never knew a stranger and was loved by all who met her. Visitation will be held on June 25, 2023, from 3-6pm at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Georgetown, Illinois 200 E. West St. Georgetown, Illinois 61846. A funeral service will be held at the Vermilion Grove Friends Church, Ridge Farm Illinois on June 26, 2023, at 11am with grave site service to follow.
