Marie Corwin, 62, of Ridge Farm, passed away at 11:10am, Monday, September 1st, 2008, at her home. She was born on January 14th, 1946, in Paris, IL, the daughter of Floyd and Edna (Johnson) Henderson, both deceased. She was wed to Donald Lee Hires in June of 1975 in Ridge Farm until his passing on December 7th, 1978. She was wed to Robert Dean Corwin Sr on July 4th, 1979, in Ridge Farm until he passed away on October 17th, 2001. Marie was a nurse for 41 years and was well known at the Catlin School District where she was the school nurse. She worked for St. Elizabeths Hospital from 1967 to 1985 and later worked at the VA Hospital in Danville. She had also worked for General Motors Tilton Foundry as their company nurse. In her spare time, Marie enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and watching their activities, raising sheep and growing roses in her flower garden. Marie was the first official Lady Shriner in this area and her clown name was Dovie. She was also a member of the Georgetown American Legion Auxiliary. She was a camp nurse for AMBUCS and a member of the Ridge Farm Friends Church where she also taught Sunday school. Marie was very involved in her community as a volunteer for many years with the Georgetown-Ridge Farm and Catlin Schools sports activities. She also volunteered with the Thanksgiving and Christmas Food Basket programs. She will be missed by: her daughters, Paula Barringer of Phoenix City, AL, Theresa Bogard of Georgetown, Kimberly Pratt of Ridge Farm, Patty (Duke) Humphrey of Jonesboro, AR, and Donna (Scott) Wilson of Westville; her sixteen grandchildren; her sister, Linda (Larry) Young Sr of Ridge Farm; her sister-in-law, Dolores Henderson of Houston, TX; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her brother, Keith Henderson Sr; and also a niece, Cheryl Henderson Brosch. A celebration of Maries life will be at 11:00am, Saturday, September 6th, 2008, at Ridge Farm Friends Church. Reverend Paul Romoser will officiate. Visitation will be 3pm-8pm on Friday, September 5th, 2008, at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E West ST, Georgetown, and also a visitation 9am-11am prior to the service on Saturday at the church. She will be laid to rest in Young American Cemetery in Hume, IL. Memorial donations may be given in Maries name to the Shriners Childrens Hospital-Burn Unit.
