Maria Freeman

Maria Cecilia (Pellizzari) Freeman, 86 of Danville, passed away at 12:15pm on Tuesday, February 9th at North Logan, Danville, with her youngest two children by her side. Maria was born July 16, 1929, in Danville, the daughter of Italian immigrants, Guillermo and Josephine (Bertelli) Pellizzari. Maria graduated from Westville High School in 1947 and the University of Illinois in 1951 with an Applied Life Science Degree. She married John Freeman on January 13, 1951, in Danville. Maria loved to golf, especially at Harrison Park Golf Course and in tournaments around Illinois. She was an avid reader and enjoyed deep philosophical discussions that challenged her perspective and the perspectives of others. Maria was known to be a "straight shooter" who valued education, honesty, and a strong work ethic. She was regarded by her children's friends as a "great teacher of life". Maria is survived by her children; William (JoAnn) Freeman, Janet (Bill) Wicklas, Tom (Gloria) Freeman, Marti (Tom) Fries, and James (Jeni) Freeman, 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Maria's visitation is from 1:00-3:00pm on Thursday, February 18th at Sunset Funeral Home, Danville. Pastor James Blue will officiate. Her funeral service will occur at 3pm at the funeral home.
