Marguerite T. Poland 91 of Danville passed away at 8:04 am Thursday January 13, 2005 at Provena Logan Campus. She was born February 11, 1913 in Danville the daughter of Valentin and Theresa Faulstich Karl. Marguerite married Bethel Poland; he preceded her on May 8, 1985. Surviving are three daughters; Jane (Donald) Lesko of Danville, Barbara (Carl) Holliday of Jacksonville, Fl and Patricia (Rick) Lanter of Binghamton, NY. Also eleven grandchildren; Madonna, Debra, Melanie, George, Tracy, Rodger, Dennis, Jack, Greg, Jared and Jason. Also twenty one great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, one brother, John (Claudine) Karl of Westville and a sister Zita Noll of Renton, Wa. She was preceded in death by her parents. Marguerite graduated from St. Joseph's grade School and Westville High School. She was also a graduate of Utterback & Brown Business School. Marguerite had worked and retired from Lake View Hospital. Marguerite was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church where she served as Eucharistic Minister for many years. She was a volunteer at both St. Elizabeth and Lake View Hospital as well as Provena when the hospitals merged. She also knitted hundreds of caps for the newborns as well as small blankets for the stillborn babies at the hospital. She was very active in the Daughters of Isabella both at the local and state level and served as president for five years. She was also an active member of the Alter and Rosary Auxiliary of St. Paul's Church. She belonged to the Vermilion Valley Quilters Guild; she was also a past member of the Business and Professional Women's Club of Danville. She was an active member of CRIS and was awarded the 1995 Outstanding Senior Volunteer of the year for Vermilion County with over 4,000 hours of service. In a letter of commendation, the CRIS agency commended her for being articulate, trustworthy and able to work well with people of all ages and backgrounds; helping all those she met in a kind, self-less compassionate and helpful manner. Marguerite loved her flower and vegetable gardens in the summer and making quilts when she couldn't be outside. She made quilts for her daughters and each of the grandchildren and those will be cherished. She especially loved being with family and the little ones.
