Margie Virginia Stanton

Champaign Forever in our hearts. Margie V. Stanton, 84, of Champaign, IL went to be with the Lord on December 24, 2018 at 9:36pm, at Palm Terrace in Mattoon, IL.

Margie was born July 24, 1934, in Champaign, a daughter of Ira F. and Virgie (Brownfield) Gudgel Sr. She married Charles L. Stanton on December 8, 1950 in Urbana, IL. He survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Sherry Stanton of Champaign and Sarah Newkirk (John) of New Market, TN. She has one brother, Don (Margaret) Gudgel of Champaign; one grandson, Cale (Lauren) Hopper of Homer; and three granddaughters Jill Hopper of Champaign, Jennifer (Danny) Clevenger of Newport, TN, and Lynn (Jeremy) Minton of TN; and 9 great-grandchildren. She leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins as well. Margie was preceded in death by her parents, one brother (JR) and one sister (Charlotte).

Margie retired from Unit 4 School District as a Food Service Supervisor. She was a past President of the IEA-NEA Bargaining Team. After retirement she hand raised tropical birds, enjoyed vacations, and enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved Illini basketball, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Chicago Bears.

A celebration of Margies life will be held at 1pm on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home, 710 N. Neil St., Champaign, IL 61820. The Rev. James Blue will officiate. Visitation will be held prior from 12pm-1pm at the funeral home. Graveside committal will follow service at Grandview Memorial Gardens.
