Margie A. Melton

Covington, Ind. - Margie A. Melton, 90, a resident of The Waters of Covington for the past 4 years and formerly of rural Kingman, Indiana passed away at 7:20 a.m. EDT Friday, September 14, 2018 at The Waters of Covington.

She was born November 8, 1928 in Westville, Illinois the daughter of the late Arthur Monroe and Ethel (Howard) Edwards.

Margie married Luther A. Melton on November 30, 1946 in Covington, Indiana. He preceded her in death on January 20, 2010.

She is survived by her son, Jody (Maureen) Melton of DeMotte, Indiana; four grandchildren, Meagan (Derek) Koeneman of Carmel, Indiana; Jillian (Trenton) Cheney of Green Bay, Wisconsin; Mark (Whitney) Melton of Indianapolis, Indiana; Chelsie Davis of Cayuga, Indiana and nine great grandchildren, Maia, Grant, and Elliet Koeneman; Benjamin and Adelynn Cheney; Charlotte Melton; Landon Peterson, Dreyson Walters and Rowen Davis.

Margie was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Janeen (Jim) Davis; her sister, Wilma Meeker; her brother, Donald Edwards, her baby brother, Dwight and a great granddaughter, Adelynn Davis.

Margie was a homemaker and later worked at Coffing Brothers Orchard and the Covington IGA. She was an avid reader and a collector of dishes and dolls, and her family still tries to duplicate her chicken and noodles but with little success. Her memberships included the Cayuga Christian Church and Cayuga American Legion Auxiliary Unit 263. She enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Colts and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Graveside service and burial: Noon EDT Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Eugene Cemetery in Eugene, Indiana; Officiating: Ashton Stewart. There will be no visitation. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Greater Indiana Chapter, 50 East 91st Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, Indiana 46240. DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana is assisting the family with arrangements.
