Margaret Rutan, 85, of Danville, Illinois passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024, at her home.

She was born September 27, 1938, in Danville, IL., daughter of the late John and Zola (Robertson) Sands.

She married Richard Rutan on August 24, 1956, in Tilton, IL., and he preceded her in death on April 17, 2009.

Margaret is survived by her son: Terry Rutan and his wife Sue of Niota, TN; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband, Margaret was preceded in death by one infant daughter: Tammy and one sister: Shirley Lee.

Margaret spent much of her life as a homemaker. She took pride in cooking meals for her family to enjoy, and loved making food for her son when he would come from Tennessee to visit her. She also loved reading and would look forward to her call from the library letting her know that the books she had ordered were in. She enjoyed traveling, and most importantly, spending time with her family and friends.

A Celebration of Life for Margaret will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 10AM with Pastor Miles Clark officiating at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N Vermilion Street Danville, Illinois 61834. Visitation will be from 9-10AM on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the funeral home. A private burial will take place at Springhill Cemetery in Danville at a later date.
