Margaret 'Punky' Scarlett

After a hard-fought, five-year battle with cancer, Margaret M. Scarlett, 75, peacefully joined the Lord on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Hawthorne, following a brief stay. Margaret "Punky" Scarlett was born November 16, 1942, the daughter of Frank Elmer Pickering and Anna Viola Pickering. Margaret Pickering and George Scarlett were united in marriage on June 17, 1961, at Trinity Lutheran Church, and were blessed with 56 years together. Margaret is survived by her husband George "Bud" Scarlett, son Timothy (Shelly Larson) Scarlett, daughter Cynthia Scarlett, two grandsons Corey (Mattie Rose) Scarlett and Ryan Scarlett, and granddaughter Anna Dancey. Also surviving: brothers Charles (Gladys) Pickering and John/Jack (Sherry) Pickering; sisters Barbara Stewart and Patricia Goin; sisters-in-law Sue Pickering Katherine Lee and Ruth (Steve) Pratt, and several beloved nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, brothers Robert Pickering and Michael Pickering, sister/brother-in-law Helen and Shelby Green, brothers-in-law Rolland Arch Goin, Jack Stewart, and Hershall Lee, Mother/father-in-law Dorothy and Max Scarlett. Punky attended Danville schools and the House of James Beauty School. From a young age, she was known as a very hard worker which was reflected in her employment at General Electric, Bohn Aluminum, Center for Children's Services, and 15 years at Central States Packaging prior to her 1999 retirement due to serious health issues. She enjoyed accompanying Bud in his 1967 GMC truck to antique car shows and festivals, as well as auctions and flea markets with special interest in oil lamps, doilies, and tea pots. Above all, her biggest passion was her home and family. Her family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Labayog and his staff for all the wonderful care they have given her. A celebration of Punky's life will be held at 10am on Monday, December 18, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 824 E. Main Street, Danville, IL, with Pastor Kent Tibben officiating. She will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park, Danville, IL. Visitation will be held Sunday December 17, 2017 from 4pm to 7pm at Sunset Funeral Home, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL. Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church or the Danville Lutheran School. Please join Punky's family in sharing memories, photos, and videos on her tribute wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
