Margaret Powell,90, born on February 15, 1935, in Danville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025, in Crestwood, Illinois, surrounded by her loving family. She was a cherished matriarch who dedicated her life to her family and community.
Margaret had a successful career as a Book Binder at Recording Statistical Printing Company for 43 years, where she not only excelled in her role but also served as Treasurer and Secretary for the Union. Her commitment to her work demonstrated her strong work ethic and dedication to her colleagues. An accomplished individual, she attended Daniel Grade School and Danville High School before earning an Associate's degree from Danville Area Community College, further exemplifying her passion for learning and self-improvement.
In addition to her career, Margaret was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, where her enthusiasm for history and genealogy shone brightly. She was a Master in Family Genealogy, passionately tracing her family's roots and sharing her findings with others.
Margaret's hobbies were diverse, reflecting her vibrant personality. After retirement Margaret learned to shoot Archery, in 1997 she was the Illinois State Champion in the Senior class age group for females. She loved gardening and camping, always eager to enjoy the beauty of nature. Roller coasters brought her great joy, especially when shared with her grandchildren, as did the simple pleasures of playing Bingo and coloring. A gifted storyteller, she had a particular talent for weaving captivating ghost stories that delighted listeners of all ages.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Marvin Mathius) Lewis; grandchildren Meghan (Kyle) Filler, Jonathan Powell, Nicole (Greg) Temple, Katelyn (Sean) Gore, and Samantha (Matt) Lewis, her great grandchildren; Aiden, Emma, Ella, Brianna, Abby, and Thomas, and a beloved Aunt to her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Reik Sr., her mother, Edna (Zander) Reik, her beloved husband, Delmer Powell Sr, and her son, Delmer “Dusty” Powell Jr. Margaret also joined her siblings—Louis, Alice, Ernest, Evelyn, and John Jr.—in eternal rest.
A Celebration of Margaret's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday May 28, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center's Urbas Chapel 414 South State Street Westville, Illinois. Officiating will be Pastor Matt Filicsky. Burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville, Illinois. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday 11:30-1:00 pm.
