Margaret "Peggy" Laury

Margaret “Peggy” Laury, 88, of Danville, IL passed away on May 10, 2025 at The Waters of Covington, IN. She was born on October 11, 1936 the daughter of Abel and Mildred (Hicks) Bryson in Joliet, IL.

Peggy is survived by her children, Ann (Paul) Luciani, Susan Laury (Mark Brewer), and Cathy (Don) Wiese; grandchildren Libby (Amanda) Luciani and Jacob Luciani, and her brother, Ralph Bryson. She is also survived by her two feline family members, Elsie and Frankie.

Her beloved husband of 62 years, Everett Laury, preceded her in death on February 24, 2024. Her parents also preceded her in death.

After graduating from Illinois Wesleyan University, Peggy moved to Danville Illinois where she taught in the Lakeview School of Nursing. After taking time away from work to raise her children, she returned to nursing – something she considered one of the hardest things she ever did. She started as a floor nurse and was promoted to nursing supervisor; she missed patient care and returned to floor nursing before her retirement.

Peggy loved welcoming friends, family, and her children’s friends into her home. She had a way of not merely making her children’s friends feel welcome, but as though they were a finally found part of the extended family. She loved music and couldn’t listen to a song (or advertising jingle!) without singing along. She was also an avid quilter who made countless quilts for her family. She loved exploring new techniques and upgrading her sewing machines to keep up with the latest technology.

Peggy was active in St. James United Methodist Church, where she sang in the church choir. Education was very important to Peggy, which was reflected in her active participation as a member of the PEO Sisterhood, Chapter HX.

A memorial service in her honor will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 17, 2025 at St. James United Methodist Church, 504 N Vermilion St, Danville, IL 61832. Reverend Dr. Donald Jackson will officiate. She will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Danville National Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N Vermilion St., Danville, IL, 61834.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Peggy’s name can be made to St. James United Methodist Church, the Alzheimer’s Association, or the PEO Chapter HX Scholarship Fund.
