Margaret 'Peggy' Howlett

Margaret "Peggy" Howlett, 97, formerly of Danville, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2023 in Meridian, ID from complications of a broken hip. She was born in Georgetown on October 28, 1925, the youngest daughter of Omer "Billy" and Lela Wells.

She attended Georgetown schools and graduated from Georgetown HS as Valedictorian in 1943. She had an office job in Michigan following her graduation at a company contributing to the war effort until she returned home and became the school secretary and assistant to the Principal of Georgetown HS. She married George Howlett on May 6, 1944 and they started their family upon his return from service. She later moved to Danville where she undertook her greatest achievement, the care of her daughter who had been born with cerebral palsy.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband George and daughter Christina Sue. She is survived by her son Mike and his wife Linda of Meridian, ID; granddaughter Kelly (Trevor) Knol of Edmond, OK; step granddaughter Kelly (Ray) Morones of Meridian, ID; great grandchildren Logan, Wyatt and Evalyn Knol of Edmond, OK; step great grandchildren Amber Morones of Costa Mesa, CA and Justin Morones of Boise, ID and nephews Craig (Amy), Brad (Jan) and Kevin (Donna) Schmoyer.

Peggy will be laid to rest at the Georgetown Cemetery. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 11:00 am at Sunset Funeral Home, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL. A visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am that morning. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Memorials be made to Farmers Chapel United Methodist Church, 414 Poland Rd, Danville, IL 61834.
