Margaret Elizabeth Banta, 95, of Georgetown, passed away at 1:35am, Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at Provena USMC. She was born on April 21, 1915, in Georgetown, IL, the daughter of Claude E. and Permelia K. (Canaday) Galyen, both deceased. She was first married to Leon Land until his passing in 1943. She later married Dewey Banta until his passing in 1975. She is survived by: her two sons, Raymond (Millie) Land and C. Frank (Jackie) Land, both of Georgetown; her eleven grandchildren; her many great grandchildren; her sister, Betty Richards of Statesboro, GA; and her many extended family members. She was preceded in death by: her daughter, Mary Hart; her son, Norman Land; her grandson, Eric Land; her son-in-law, Fred Hart; her three sisters, Claudia Duell, Lucille Hughes, and Mabel Reid; her three brothers, Paul, Lewis, and John Galyen. Elizabeth enjoyed gardening and tending her flowers. She especially enjoyed getting together with family and spending time with her grandchildren. Elizabeth was an accomplished artist and painted many things. She was a lifelong member of the First Church of Christ in Georgetown. A celebration of Elizabeths life will be held at10:00am, Friday, February 18, 2011, at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Chapel, a Life Celebration Home, Georgetown. Visitation will be 5p-7p, Thursday, February 17, 2011, at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Forest Park Cemetery, Georgetown. Memorial donations may be made to the Georgetown Library or donors choice.
