Mamie Wyoma Gray

Mamie Wyoma Gray, 101, of Danville, went to be with her Savior on August 19, 2023, at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center, Danville, IL, after a brief illness. She was born on November 18, 1921, in Danville, the daughter of Mark and Jesse May {Short) Mikel. She was united in marriage to Russell Gray on May 19, 1941, and they made their home in the Home Gardens community in Danville, until his passing in 1961. Mamie enjoyed taking care of her home, working in her yard and tending her flower garden. She also enjoyed reading her favorite magazine, Birds and Blooms, and was an avid fan of country music. She spent many hours watching her favorite program, The Porter Wagoner Show, with Dolly Parton among many others. She was an excellent cook and created many wonderful meals, especially during the holidays, to share with her family. She will be dearly missed by her sons, Dennis (Lori) Gray of Danville and Russell (Judi) Gray Jr of Longneck, Delaware; her daughter, Linda (Larry) Sanders of Prosper, Texas; her eight grandchildren; her 19 great grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters, Eva, Vivian, Juanita, and Maxine; and her brothers, Glen, Delbert, and Clarence "Bud". A celebration of Mamies life will be held at 10:00am, Thursday, August 24, 2023, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Westville, Illinois 414 S State St. Westville, Illinois 61883 with Tom Mills officiating. She will be laid to rest in Spring Hill Cemetery, Danville, IL. Memorial donations may be given in her name to the donors choice of charity.
