Mack Harris, 85, of Danville passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at the Illiana VA Health Care in Danville. He was born on November 17, 1932, in McCrory, Arkansas at his grandparents' farm. He was the son of Russell S. Harris and Avis Boggs Harris. Growing up in Augusta, AR, Mack learned to swim in the White River and participated in sports and drama club throughout high school. He attended Arkansas College on a football scholarship before entering the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Upon his return he married Ann Root on November 25, 1954. He then began his forty-year career with the Chicago Northwestern Transportation CO. in Peoria, IL. A lifelong Methodist, Mack served in numerous offices at each new church as work transfers occurred. He was also active in the International Lion's Club and helped organize a new chapter of Habitat for Humanity in Garland County, AR, building houses for many years. Mack is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ann Harris; his two daughters, Peggy (John) Kunze of Danville, IL and Susie (Jim) Russell of Centennial, CO. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by his family. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 30, 2018, with lunch to follow, at St. James United Methodist Church, 504 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St. has been entrusted with arrangement. Per Mack's wishes cremation rights have been accorded.
