Mabel Melissa Wilson

Mabel Melissa Wilson, 93, died on January 16, 2016 at Hawthorne Inn in Danville IL, were she was a resident. Mabel was born on April 11, 1922 in Brookeville, IL the daughter of John Thomas and Cora Elizabeth (Miller) Wilson. On June 16, 1940 she married William Edward Wilson in Covington, IN, he preceded her in death on July 16, 2001. Surviving Mabel are two children; John (Barbara) Wilson of Lansing, Il, and Wanda (John II) Grygiel of Danville; two grandchildren, John Carl (Julie) Grygiel III of Mahomet and Melissa Ann-Grygiel (Matthew) Smith of Lawrence, KS; three great grandchildren, Brooke Catherine and Bailey Marie Smith of Lawrence, KS and John Carl Grygiel IV of Mahomet. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two sisters; Evelyn Piatt and Maxine McBride. Mabel was a member of the Second Church of Christ in Danville. She was a hard working woman with an impeccable work ethic. She was a beautician for over fifty years, she owned her own beauty shop at 906 North Bowman, and she enjoyed managing the Shaved Ice line for Sno-Dog at the Danville Stadium. Most of all Mabel enjoyed people and loved her family for which she was very devoted to. A celebration of Mabel's life will be held at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, on Wednesday January 20, 2016 at 1pm with Drew Mentzer officiating. Burial will follow at Danville National Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday January 19, from 4-7pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to Charline Grygiel Scholarship Fund at Lakeview College of Nursing or Hawthorne Inn Activities Department, in Mabel's name.
