Mary Sue Knauer, 89, of Cayuga, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 5, 2026.

Born on March 8, 1936, in Knoxville, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Louis Mourfield Sr. and the late Emma Fisher. On September 22, 1956, she married the love of her life, Dale Knauer. Sue and Dale were truly soulmates, devoted to one another and happiest when they were together. They shared 65 wonderful years together until his passing on November 30, 2021.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Edna Lindsey, Louis "Bub" Mourfield Jr., and Betty Dalton.

She is survived by her children, Donald (Sandra) Knauer and Rhonda (Matt) Miller; her six grandchildren, Ryan Miller, Lindsey (Travis) Wait, Brad (Allie) Knauer, Kellie (Blake) Moore, Matthew (Zandra) Johnson, and Tyler (Rachael) Johnson; and eleven great-grandchildren, Grayson, Collin, and Landon Wait; Mila, Maren, and Cope Knauer; Waylon and Brooks Moore; Zander and JoJo Johnson; and Benjamin Johnson.

Sue was a devoted mother and homemaker. She also worked for 20 years in the cafeteria at Cayuga Grade School and North Vermillion Elementary, retiring in June 1994.

Sue treasured spending time with her family and finding joy in the simple, meaningful moments of everyday life. She was an exceptional cook and baker, known for delicious Monster Cookies and pies. She delighted in sharing her treats with friends, neighbors, and anyone in need. She also enjoyed browsing antique stores, especially when she could hunt for green dishware, and she never passed up a chance to go shopping. She also served as a den mother for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts for many years, pouring her heart into every group she supported.

Sue was a devoted member of Cayuga Christian Church. Sue served faithfully in many roles. She was a deaconess, led Wednesday night youth group, crafted many costumes for church events, and helped with Thanksgiving baskets and the backpack program.

She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by her precious family.
