Alyce Lynnette (Randolph) McMahan, 80, of Covington, IN, passed away August 5, 2025, at WellBrooke of Crawfordsville after a long illness.
Born Dec. 9, 1944, she was the daughter of Lindley F. and Mary Alice Mitchell Randolph. She grew up in southern Fountain County on Silver Island, pioneered by her ancestors, where she was surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. She loved researching family history and was the genealogist for the Randolph Reunion. Her parents and two brothers, Don Warren Randolph and Ronald Wayne (Fuzz) Randolph preceded her in death. Her sister, Marilyn (Conrad) Porter of Urbana, Illinois survives.
She is survived by her dear husband of 58 years, Ron McMahan, and their three deeply loved children: Ryan Mitchell (Laura) McMahan of Covington; Chad Ronald (Nicole) McMahan of Covington, and Ellen Lynn McMahan of Carmel. Lynnette also is survived by a beloved daughter, Sarah Lynne (Todd) Ditmore, of Raleigh, NC. She had six wonderful grandchildren: Jessica (Daniel) Hayman, Mitchell McMahan, Carli McMahan, Alexander McMahan, Georgia (TJ) Lovejoy-Henkel and Audrey Ditmore. She also had 3 great grandchildren: Dynver McMahan, Carter McMahan, and Hudson Lovejoy-Henkel.
Lynnette graduated from Covington High School with the Class of 1962 and received a BA from Indiana University and an MS from Indiana State University. She taught high school English and creative writing during these times: 1967--1968 Lake Central High School; 1969--1972 Fountain Central High School, and 1980--2006 at Fountain Central again. In those years she enjoyed learning with young people and made lasting friendships among her colleagues and students.
She enjoyed genealogy, travel, observing nature and birds, and reading. She played bid euchre in a ladies' club, was past president of Coffeenians and Covington Woman's Club, past president of Silver Island Cemetery Association, and member of Fountain County Genealogical Society.
A Celebration of Lynnette’s life will be at 5pm est. on Sunday August 10, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center’s Covington Chapel 420 3rd street Covington, Indiana 47932. The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Sunday 2-5pm est. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Silver Island Cemetery c/o Western Indiana Community Foundation 135 S. Stringtown Road, Covington, IN 47932. Private burial at a later date for Lynnette at Silver Island Cemetery will take place.
