Bismarck - Lyle Ray Milner, 82, of Bismarck, IL passed away at 8:45 AM on Thursday November 15, 2018 at OSF Hospital in Danville, IL. Lyle was born in Henning, IL on July 5, 1936 the son of Floyd and Ferne (Horine) Milner. He was united in marriage to Carol Gater on August 29, 1964 in Danville, IL. She survives. He will be missed by his wife, Carol Milner, his two daughters, Julie Miller and Susan (Eric) Cox, his son, Greg (Stephanie) Milner, his brother, John Milner, six grandchildren, Dylan and Keith Miller, Megan and Lauren Cox, Brook and Brittany Milner, his nieces Kathy Zehr, Debbie (Tom) Simmons and Shari (Grant) Wegner as well as several great nieces and nephews. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Patricia Zehr, brother-in-law, Bill Zehr, sister-in-law, Dee Milner and niece Vicki Milner. Lyle and Carol enjoyed going to the Royal Donut for coffee and visiting with the employees. He enjoyed reading, working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, making his yard beautiful and spending time with his grandchildren and attending their various activities. He enjoyed ballroom dancing with his wife Carol and baking the best Christmas Treats ever! Lyle's first real job, at 18, was a telegraph operator for the railroad in Chicago, IL, he worked for a short time at Caterpillar in Aurora, IL and then at Hyster in Danville, IL for 37 years. He participated on the Activity Committee during his time at Hyster and planned activities for the Hyster employees. Lyle was also an active member of the Bismarck community. He helped lay the groundwork for the Bismarck Park, was a Scout Leader, Volunteer Fireman, and a school board member. He helped Bismarck Township serving at the clerk, was a devoted Lions Club member for over 50 years where he served as the Secretary and Treasurer for several years. He was also Treasurer of the Bismarck United Methodist Church for 25 years. After retirement from Hyster in 1998, Lyle drove a school bus for 8 years. A Celebration of Life on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, with Pastor Chris Quick officiating. Cremation Rites will be accorded following services and inurnment will be in Sunset Memorial Park at a later date. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 19, 2018 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bismarck United Methodist Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
