Perrysville, Ind. - Luther "John" Ping, 79, of Perrysville, passed away at 10:23 p.m. EDT Monday, July 2, 2012 at Williamsburg Health Care in Crawfordsville, Indiana. He was born June 20, 1933 in Fountain County, Indiana, the son of the late Ralph James and Lucile Davis Ping. He married Barbara J. Cook on April 21, 1955 in Covington, Indiana. She preceded him in death on January 6, 2008. Survivors include four daughters, Denise(Larry)James of Kingman, Indiana; Darla(Terry)Gillis of Cayuga, Indiana; Marla(Tim)Auter and Dawn(John)Freed both of Covington, Indiana; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three sisters, Jane Rowe of Covington, Indiana; Carolyn(Ron)Smith of Rosedale, Indiana and JoAnn Cook of Danville, Illinois; two brothers, Darrell(Liz)Ping of Williamsport, Indiana and Richard Ping of Covington, Indiana. he was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers. John retired from TeePak in Danville, Illinois. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the United States Army as a Medic. He enjoyed gardening, taking care of his yard and spending time with his family. Funeral services: 11 a.m. EDT Friday, July 6, 2012 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Tim Auter; Burial: Hughes Cemetery in rural Perrysville, Indiana with military rites by the Cayuga American Legion Post #263; Visitation: one hour prior to services on Friday, July 6, 2012 at the funeral home.
