Lura Elizabeth "Betsy" Martinek Betsy went to be with Jesus and her husband and companion of over 50 years on April 28, 2018. Betsy was a devoted wife and mother to 9 children, Dawn (Doug) Nicoson, Maureen Regan, Sheryl Martinek, Renee Saults, Harry (Karin) Martinek, Brenda (Rick) Ellis, Rick Martinek, Rhonda Martinek and Amanda Martinek. After her children her greatest joys were her 14 grandchildren, Erin Nicoson, Andrew (Jenny) Nicoson, Lindsay (Ethan Perkins) Nicoson, Matt Nicoson, Patrick (Adrienne) Regan, Sam Regan, Jacob Regan, Derek Saults, Crystal (Curtis) Edenfield, David Tuggle, Cassie Tuggle, Payton Martinek, Logan Martinek, Colton Martinek, Aubri Martinek, and her great-grandchildren, RJ Brown, Elijah Perkins, Solomon Perkins, Chase Edenfield, Nathen Edenfield and Kiley Edenfield. Betsy is survived by her children, grandchildren, her beloved sister Deborah Siddens, and numerous nieces and nephews. Betsy, the original "supermom" not only raised her 9 children but also her younger sister Debbie Siddens. Betsy never failed to be involved in her children's numerous activities, including, but not limited to, room mother, Scout Leader, and 4H club leader. She did it all. Known to all for her kindness and generosity, Betsy continued her community involvement even after her children started moving away. She continued to be involved in many fundraisers and campaigns, like Faith In Action. Betsy loved serving others. Once her children were grown she went to work in retail management, first at Elder Beerman, then Dollar Time, and then Meijer. After which, she joined dad in retirement. They enjoyed traveling, especially cruises. Even in her final weeks, throughout her illness, she remained ever compassionate and considerate to her caregivers and medical professionals. Betsy constantly thanked the nurses and was so apologetic in asking for anything. The residents at Liberty Village consistently gushed over her sweet nature and concern for others. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 from 5-8pm at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church. She will be interred at Resurrection Cemetery alongside her husband Harry.
