Danville, Ill. -- Lucy Mae Reed, 88, of Danville, passed away at 2:09 p.m. CST Thursday, January 1, 2009 at her residence. She was born February 2, 1920 in Charleston, Illinois, the daughter of the late George Washington and Melissa Glenn Loving Hughes. Survivors include three sons, Phillip(Sally)Reed of Kingman, Indiana; Richard Reed of Kentucky and Earl Duane Reed of Danville, Illinois; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; five sisters, Drusilla Spencer, LaDonna Switzer and Nora Lee Naylor all of Cayuga, Indiana; Loretta(Rev. Harold)Canaday of Union, Missouri and Izetta Beulah Barker of St. Paul, Minnesota; two brothers, Kenneth George Hughes of Cayuga, Indiana and Joseph Audly(Dorothy)Hughes of Florida. She was preceded in death by her son, Larry Reed; one great granddaughter, Nicole Harrison and two brothers, Everett and Carlos Hughes. Lucy was a Ward Clerk at the former Lakeview Hospital in Danville. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Danville, and was a 1939 graduate of Cayuga High School. Private family graveside services will be held at Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana. Officiating: Pastor Dave Anderson. There will be no visitation. DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana in charge of arrangements.
