Lucy Florence Ponder, 84, of Danville, passed away at 12:37 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2008 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Lucy was born on March 21, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Rocco and Lucy Irene (Kingsbury) Chilion. She shared 63 wonderful years with her loving husband, Norman Ponder. He survives her. She is survived by her three daughters- Darlene (Roy) Frantz of Sunrise, Florida, Lucy Ann (Neal) Dillon of Aiken, South Carolina and Susan (Ed) Miller of Oakwood; six grandchildren- Norman (Sandra) Frantz of Coral Springs, Florida, Lt. Col. Robert (Gail) Dillon of Germany, Michael (Nicole) Dillon of Riverside, California, Melissa Holst of Danville, Dawn (Mike) Pricer of Oakwood and Emily Miller of Greenville, North Carolina; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, three brothers, and two grandchildren- Laura Wheeler and Cpl. Matthew Dillon. Lucy was a homemaker most of her life. She was the proprietor of the Ponderosa Caf(c) in Danville for 4 years in the 60s. Prior to moving to Danville she owned a tourist home in Brevard, North Carolina. She found enjoyment from gardening, collecting antique items especially Jewel Tea dishes and was a avid bingo player. She was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church since 1957. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Celebration of the Life of Lucy F. Ponder will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at Ridgeview Baptist Church, with Pastor Mark Keyser officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 " 7:00 p.m. Monday at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Entombment will follow the service in Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Ridgeview Baptist Church.
