Lucy (Specht) Elkins

Thelma “Lucy” Elkins, 95, of Fisher passed away on the morning of Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Gibson Area Hospital, Gibson City.

She was born Oct. 12, 1928, in Bible Grove, a daughter of Lowell and Dora Specht. She married Kenneth “Tobe” Elkins on Sept. 16, 1950, in Paxton. He preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 2014.

She is survived by a son, Randy (Nancy) Elkins of Fisher; a brother, Roscoe (Julie) Specht of Rantoul; two sisters, Wanda Grindley of Mahomet and Linda (Ron) McCorkle of Cedar Grove, N.C.; two grandchildren, Mitchell and Matthew (Megan) Elkins. Also surviving is a great-granddaughter, Raegan Elkins. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Lucy graduated from Illinois State University and went on to earn her masters degree at the University of Illinois. She taught at the Fisher Schools for 40 years and remained on as a substitute teacher for another ten years! She attended the River Valley Church of Christ in Fisher for many years.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the River Valley Church. The Rev. Jon Scott will officiate. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.
