Lucile Margaret Mellinger

Perrysville, Ind. - Lucile Margaret Mellinger, 93, of Perrysville, passed away at 4:40 p.m. EDT Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Clinton Gardens in Clinton, Indiana. She was born May 6, 1921 in Perrysville, Indiana the daughter of the late Tillman Benson and Jennie Margaret Sowers Adams. Lucile married James Franklin Mellinger on June 29, 1946 in Attica, Indiana. He preceded her in death on December 31, 2003. Survivors include two daughters, Margaret "Maggi" Ann Wyant of Avon, Indiana and Patricia "Tish" Marie(John)Tackett of Terre Haute, Indiana; one son, James F.(Sheila)Mellinger, Jr. of Hillsdale, Indiana; four grandchildren, Cindy Bishop; Sara Wyant; Jesse Mellinger and Bishop Mellinger; five great grandchildren, Alexis; Chloe; Rhea; Theia and Johnathan. Lucile was preceded in death by her daughter, Jamie Summers and infant brother, Charles Adams. A longtime teacher in Vermillion County, Lucile taught music and art at Perrysville High School and the North Vermillion Grade School System until her retirement in 1986. She was a member of the Perrysville United Methodist Church and Parke/Vermillion Retired Teachers Association. A graduate of Perrysville High School in 1939, Lucile went on to further her education at Indiana State Teachers College in Terre Haute, graduating in 1944. Lucile enjoyed cooking, raising flowers, gardening and giving piano lessons. She was especially proud to work on the annual Christmas programs at school. Lucile loved to work with her students saying that "nothing you do for a child is ever wasted." Lucile loved her children and enjoyed spending time with them and her grandchildren.
