Luann T Torbit

Luann Torbit, 66, of Westville Illinois passed away peacefully at home with her husband early Friday morning, October 19, 2012. She is the beloved wife of Jimmy Torbit, the oldest daughter of Stanley and Lucille Valantas, the cherished sister of Dorothy Lewis, and the most wonderful mother to Lori Harris and Lisa Innes. Her two grandchildren are Jordan and Eric Harris of Mahomet. All of whom survive her apart from her father, Stanley, whom she's gone to meet in heaven. Luann and her husband Jim celebrated 47 anniversaries together. They married shortly after high school and started a family. Luann dedicated herself to raising her girls until they were both in school and then she rejoined the workforce. She retired from Judith Giacoma Elementary School where she was a secretary for the Westville School District for 25 years. Everyone there loved her and appreciated her. She worked very hard and loved the kids beyond reason. Luann and Jim loved to fish, travel, and explore new places. They spent many happy weekends and summers traveling to 46 of the 50 states. She enjoyed and lived life to the fullest. Luann was an eternal optimist. Luann was a loyal parishioner to St. Mary's Church for her entire life. She sang in the choir, volunteered for numerous activities, and was always willing to help out in any way. Visitation and rosary will be held at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Home on Monday evening, October 22, 2012, from 4-8 pm. A mass will be held in her honor at St. Mary's Church on Tuesday, October 23 at 10:00. It will be followed by and interment ceremony at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery (east of Westville Illinois). The altar and rosary society will be providing a meal in the gymnasium of St. Mary's for her friends and family to celebrate her life and love following the internment. Luann requested memorials be made to The American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
