FORT WAYNE, IN - Loyd Wayne Perry, 92, of Fort Wayne, formerly of Danville, went home to be with the Lord on December 24, 2014 at 6:45 p.m. He was born January 19, 1922, in West Frankfort, IL to E. Wayne and Nettie (Morris) Perry. He is survived by his wife Dorothea (Woods) Perry who he married in Danville on December 23, 1951. They resided in Danville until 2013 when they moved to Fort Wayne, IN. He is also survived by his daughter, Diane (Douglas) Martin, his 2 grandchildren, Daniel Martin and Melissa (Daniel) DeBolt; 1 great grandchild, Judah DeBolt, all of Fort Wayne; a sister, Nona Sprouls, of Danville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Bernice Kilgore of Peoria, IL. Loyd grew up in Oak Park, Illinois, and later was a graduate of University of Illinois. He was proud to have served as a 1st Lt in the US Army Tank Corps in World War II stationed in Leyte and the Philippines. He was a member of the American Legion - Post 210. He started his career as a teacher in Litchfield, IL before moving to Danville where he touched the lives of many students at Danville High, North Ridge and East Park and retired after 36 years of teaching. He was a skilled carpenter and woodworker, an avid bowler, enjoyed gardening and was a member of the "Chicago Cubs Die Hard Fan Club" since 1933. He played Varsity baseball for U of I and loved watching baseball as well as Illini basketball. After he retired, he was a tutor for Literacy Volunteers of America, enjoyed playing cards and traveling with his beloved wife. He was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church prior to moving to Fort Wayne where he belonged to The Chapel. A service to celebrate Loyds life will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 29th at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. Entombment with military rites provided by the Danville American Legion Post 210 will follow services at Sunset Memorial Park Swan Court Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 2 until 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that memorials be donated to Vermilion County War Museum and the Collett Street Humane Society of Danville.
