Lowell Heidrick Loving, 85, of Danville, passed away at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at his residence. Lowell was born on January 19, 1921 in Danville, the son of Guy Melville and Grace Irene (Heidrick) Loving. He married Dorothy Louise Thompson on November 7, 1942 in Chicago. She survives. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Loving of Danville; one son- Kenneth (Carolyn) Loving- Annapolis, Maryland; Kathy (Arthur) Wolfinbarger of Danville; one brother- Robert Earl (Pat) Loving of Dallas, Texas; one sister- Clara June (Butch) Bennett of Oaklawn, Illinois; three grandchildren- Joyce Louise (Jon) Bruett of Danville, Ryan Arthur (Annette) Wolfinbarger of Avon, Indiana, and Kristen Sarah Wolfinbarger of Danville; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Kenneth Leroy Loving who died in WWII. Lowell graduated from Parker High School in Chicago. After high school he attended Aeronautic University (Armour Institute) in Chicago. His education in aeronautical engineering was interrupted by WWII. He served with the 1st Army Headquarters in Europe and the South Pacific. After the military, Lowell worked at General Electric from 1946-1949 as an engineer in the planning department. He later worked at Hyster from 1950-1953 as an engineer for the planning department. In 1953 he started L.H. Loving Associates Surveying and Mapping in Danville. Lowell belonged to several professional and civic organizations. He was a member for 40 years and past chairman of the Greater Danville Planning and Zoning Commission, past president for the board of trustees for the YWCA, 13 years as a Scoutmaster for Troop 6 and Cub master Pack 6, member of the Danville Zoning Board of Appeals, Danville Chamber of Commerce, National Council of Engineer and Surveying Examiners, Chairman of Illinois Land Surveyors Examining Committee, Past President of Illinois Reg. Land Surveyors Association of East Central for 12 years, fellowship of American Congress Surveying and Mapping, and a Member and Consultant for the National Council Engineering Examiners. Lowell was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Danville, where he served as a elder, deacon, and a teacher. In 1996 he won the Business Ethics and Social Involvement Award. Lowell enjoyed spending his time with family and friends and his profession. A memorial service for Lowell Heidrick Loving will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the Lowell and Dorothy Loving Education Foundation, 1215 E. Main St. Danville, Illinois 61832.
