Louise Jeannette (Phipps) Urbas succumbed to a recent illness on her 98th birthday, June 6. One of five daughters and three sons, she was born in Frederick, OK, in 1912 to O. L. and Cora Phipps. Years after a brief marriage to A. G. Earp, with whom she had her only child, Louise met Cyril M. Urbas while he was stationed at a local military base in Oklahoma. They married in 1945 and moved to Westville, IL, where he served as director of his familys business, the Urbas Funeral Home. Louise resided for 51 years in Westville, IL, where she was an avid gardener and decorator. She made exception to her generally private life one year by spearheading the United Way campaign in her community, for which she achieved a record-breaking number of contributions. She was also a lifetime member of the Danville Symphony Orchestra. In 2007, the ever-stylish nonagenarian moved to a nursing care facility. Louise was preceded in death in 1982 by Cy Urbas, her husband of 37 years; in 1974 by her granddaughter Tanya Cyd Jackson; and earlier by her parents, three brothers, and two sisters. Surviving family members include daughter Nona Louise (Earp) Jackson of Danville; sisters Virginia Reynolds of Oklahoma and Wilna (and husband Eddie) of California; and three grandchildren"Nancy (in CA), Carol (and husband Edward Bevan in IL), and Rob (in CO). Visitation will be 4"6 p.m. on June 18, 2010, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel of Westville (414 S. State St., Westville, IL), with a graveside service held the next morning at 10:30, June 19, in Spring Hill Cemetery and Mausoleum (301 E. Voorhees in Danville, IL; enter on English St. side). Condolences and remembrances may be shared at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com. The family wishes to thank the staff at Danville Care Center for the considerable concern and services they provided Louise.
