Louise Aileen Schneider, 92, of Rantoul went to be with Lord on the morning of Monday, Sept. 9, 2024, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
She was born June 27, 1932, in Springfield, a daughter of Karl Alphonso and Artie Vianna (Easley) Gowin. She married Herman Friedrich Schneider of Loda on Oct. 6, 1951, in Springfield. They celebrated 72 years of marriage. He survives.
Also surviving are four children, Anita (Gary) Gordon, Kay (Charles) Pierce, Jane (Ray) Stewart and John (Jill) Schneider; a brother, Edward Gowin; a sister, Patricia Dennison; 13 grandchildren, Johanna, Isaac, Samuel, Jacob, Laura, Kalie, Kristen, Joel, Julia, Norlyn, Mitchell, Gabriella and Corbin; 27 great-grandchildren, with two more arriving soon!
She earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Illinois State University in June of 1962. She began her teaching career in Bismarck for two years then moved with her husband to Rantoul in 1956, where she taught at Northview and Pleasant Acre schools. She retired in 1988, after 29 years of teaching.
She and her husband have been members of the Bible Baptist Church, Rantoul for 68 years. She served as a Sunday school teacher, youth group leader and nursery coordinator. She especially loved children. Her testimony influenced many. She loved time spent with her family and sharing the family cabin in Crane Lake, Minn. In her later years, she and her husband enjoyed the dances in area communities making new friends and staying active. She was a kind and loving person with a word of encouragement for everyone.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Bible Baptist Church. The Rev. Albert Bennett will officiate. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, also at the church.
Lux Memorial Chapel is handling the arrangements.
